Recent Events

Last week I had the chance to attend a conference made by Paul Rusesabagina, the now famous hotel Manager from the movie Hotel Rwanda. He told his story, in his own words, of the events that made him the Oscar Schindler of his time. I encourage you to see that movie, as his actions were and still are remarkable.

In the same week, I decided to go see a Death Metal show in Vancouver, to find out if the metal fans here in the West are as crazy as in Québec, la Capitale Du Métal. Obviously, the answer is no. But the ambience was nevertheless insane. I Started the first moshpit during the first band and got severely hit on the foot. I continued trashing anyway through the second band (Lazarus AD) and during Kataklysm. The result was 4 days walking around in crutches...

Kataklysm (Origin: Quebec)
playing their new song Prevail at the show (19/03/2010). I was above on the balcony looking down on the moshpit...wishing I could join...

Here is the song Revolution from the band Lazarus AD, a new amazing discovery from that same show

As I'm now recovering slowly, I'm getting ready for a nice trip on Vancouver island next week...

Incroyable!  Une occasion en or d'aller rider!

WOW!
Quelle fin de semaine!!

Until Next time...

Jamming @ Mike's!!

Name says it all!
For something completely different from the usual snowboard post, here is
my best of jamming time with Mike Joyce & Friends in North Vancouver!

I got to know this great musician through Kam, my roommate, a night when we all got drunk at my place and I spent an hour drumming on my knees with Mike rocking with the guitar. It was so intense that I bruised my knees, but since then, this event turn into amazing jamm sessions at his place.

Note that all songs shown below are filmed with a digital camera (poor sound) and that we are IMPROVISING!!! Oh yeah!

2nd Jamm session, Sebastian! (Sweden), Mike and me

We start with some power drink (Don De Dieu!)

Mike and I in action

Seba on the acoustic!

Here is a good impro with Seba, Mike and me

Then, yesterday (march 6th) my roommate Kam and I go back to North Van for some more jammin'!!
Mike is there to entertain with some sweet Banjo rythm

Sounds like this...

Mike invited his friend Eric Campbell, who, at 17 years of age, as got a rare talent for blues...

And to complete the scene, a first draft of impro on acoustic

...and Finally, some good ol sweeping guitar to wrap up this wonderful jamm session!
Note that Eric, at one point, turns my sound up so we can hear me a bit more, nice touch!

Until next time!!

Golden Olympic Times

One word: Epic

To sum up these last 10 days of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, words are not enough. Partying with my buddies in Vancity and Whistler coupled with the greatest sporting events in the world, it doesn't get any better then this!!

On that Tuesday February 16th, Moe, Dobrev and I go to Whistler to check out the men's and women's biathlon competition.

We're all stocked up and cheering for our country!

The women athletes shooting for gold

Unfortunately, none of the canadian athletes won any medal in that event, but we nevertheless had a great time.
Here, we meet Les supporters Français

The Swedes were all there, and like their jerseys, Bjorn Ferry (Sweden) won the men's gold in 12.5km Biathlon pursuit!!

Coming back from Whistler, we enjoy some sun at Wreck beach on campus, close to my house...

Posing on the ridge

On that Thursday 18th, Dobrev and I go to Whistler one more time to ride those slopes that almost took half of his tongue...
(Moe slept in because of hangoverness)

One of my favorite shot, cheering for our team on the slopes!

Dobrev claiming the mountain!

And That sums up the Adventures of Moe and Dobrev in "B"ancouver!!!
Had a blast guys!! See you this summer on the East Coast!
(picture taken in whistler when Canada won 8-0 against Norway)

With Ioana, after missing our bus in the morning, we fight our way to the main bus station downtown, randomly catch a 7h45 bus, go to Whistler, take another bus to the Olympic village, walk 1.5km to arrive late, but not too late, just in time to see the two final rounds of Men's Long Hill Ski Jump Final (teams)

The weather was amazingly beautiful that day!

The athletes, flying up to 146 meters long in the air!!!
WOW!

Here is a nice Video of the Austrian jumper who gets the longest jump of the day with 146 meters!!!
A nice moonwalk to celebrate!!

The Austrians took the gold, silver for the Germans and the bronze to Norway

The next day, we go out to the mountain, and I try Telemark skis for the first time. Having done 7 years of skiing (7 years ago) I had some skills, but the telemark movement is not easy to get on the first day...when I got tired of it, I just leaned back and went down normal skiing...
After a good day out there, we go down to the village to see Canada beat Germany 8-2!

After crushing the Russians 7-3 on that Wednesday, I gear up with da team to watch Canada beat the Slovakians 3-2 in the semis, with direct access to the Gold medal game!!!

On Granville Street, people were going nuts!!!

Video at Granville st and Robson st intersection, insane!!!
We could already smell the gold!!
(seemed a bit like St-Jean...just a bit less fun...and cops didnt allow us to drink in the street)

A Huge 30mX10m Poster!!!
Says it All!!

Finally, after losing to the Americans in the 3rd game, we gear up to face them in the final game. We got downtown at 7h30 to line up for the game...that was at 12h30!!!
Here is the lineup at 8am!!!

Cheering for the team!! GO Canada GO!!

Video of the ambience in the Shark Club!!!
The club was right next to BC Place, where the final game was held!

Jerome, Number 1 fan!!

Crosby, Iginla, Brodeur...
(caught the jersey, and had to win it again, paper rocks!)

We did it!!!
After a breathtaking goal to tie the game at 2-2, 25 seconds before the end of the 3rd period, Crosby Scores the Golden Goal in OT to Win the Gold for Canada!!!
What a game!!
What a finish!!

CANADA #1

The National Anthem

Amazing memories

So we went downtown to celebrate, and what a celebration!! After starting to drink at 7h30am, it was now 10pm and we were still yelling "On Boé, On boé On boé On boé" in the street and carrying the flag around!! A video taken at the famous Granville and Robson street intersection! Packed!!!

Wow, these were the most amazing Olympics ever for Canada, having won 26 medals, 14 Gold, the most ever won by any single country in one winter Olympics, plus winning the Hockey gold, all of that at home!!
Its our games, lets claim them!!!

Unforgetable Memories!!!!
